HOW TO.. SELF EVALUATION

At the end of our first group task it was required that we complete a self-evaluation of how we believe we have preformed during the brief.

What roles did you take on in the group?

Firstly, in the group I helped out during ideas generation, which was challenging due to contrasting views and opinions. Additionally, I also had an input with collecting research on flyers and different bespoke ways they can display information. I also created vector objects that would be displayed on the flyer, used as visual aids next to the tips. Finally, as a group we all had equal rolls during the final presentation of our products.

How well do you think you preformed in the roles?

I believe that I preformed the roles well, I had an equal input with group discussions about ideas and adaptations to our product. Moreover, the vector objects I created were in context with the style of the rest of the design and where completed on time.

How well do you think you worked as a group?

Overall, as a group I believe we worked really well together, there was a good group dynamic which enabled us to get work done fast. We faced some problems early on when generating ideas, as there were conflicting ideas about how certain things should have been done.  However, we had discussions until the problems were resolved. All members of the group were focused and punctual which resulted in us completing the project on time and to a high standard.

What were the positives of working in a group?

The main positives of working in a group was the variation of ideas, because there was so many conflicting tastes and interests everyone in the group had something different to offer when generating ideas. Furthermore, the workload could be divided between members of the group that enabled us to complete a good amount of work in time to meet the deadline.

What were the negatives of working in a group?

Some of the main negatives of working in a group that I noticed was when generating ideas a lot of the idea either clashed or would not work together. Deciding which idea to carry forward was a challenge, we overcame this problem by discussing as a group what idea worked best. Additionally, it was difficult when dividing up the design work as we had never seen each others work or had any idea what interests or style other members of the group might have had. Moreover, because of the number of people in the group (5) there was sometimes not enough work to be divided equally between everyone.

What will you do differently next time?

When next working in a group I will be sure to find out what peoples design preferences are. I will do this early on in the design process, this way I will have an idea of what people’s interests and strengths are. This will make dividing individual design tasks up a lot easier.

Where could you have improved your resolution?

I believe that the content and layout of the flyer and poster was relevant to our target audience and displayed the information well. However, I believe we could have managed our time better and spent more time preparing for our presentation.

What were the strengths of your presentation?

Our presentation went well, we displayed all relevant information regarding our design process and the choices we made. Furthermore, we made sure that everyone in the group had something to say so nobody was left out without any input. We also printed examples of our product; this enabled us to further engage the audience and allowed them to get a closer look at our product
